Breakfast at Gus'...

Sunday morning tradition in the North Country is going out to breakfast. One of my favorite places is in Plattsburgh.

Usually every booth is filled. This time we got our pick of where to sit.

From 1951 to the present time, Gus' has been famous for "red hot" hotdogs. Or as also known here in the North Country of NY, "michigan hotdogs." But I can attest to the great meatloaf dinner, and just about any breakfast meal you would like to order!

My favorite breakfast: crisp bacon, eggs over medium, thick toast and home fries and grape jelly. We won't even calculate the calories on that plate! It's a good thing I only do this about once a month.
And for dessert,... perfect black coffee!

Okay - That plate full of breakfast looks like it could be the best morning meal I have ever seen! I've seen Gus from the road, but we've never stopped. Now we'll have to!

I can almost smell the coffee and bacon now....mmmmmmm.

I know they make redhots at Dearborn Sausage, here in Michigan, but I didn't know they were known as Michigan dogs. I haven't had a redhot in eons.

I love breakfast joints like this! Your photos made me hungry! (I wonder why they call it a Michigan hotdog?)

Not sure why they are called "michigans"... some say the recipe for the sauce originated in state of Michigan. It's a ground beef, tomato sauce with a touch of brown sugar and spices,.. chopped onions can be either on top, or "buried"... I'll have to do some more research and do a whole blog entry on the michigan hot dog.

That's my kind of place - not just for the food, but for the sort of place I love to photograph as well.

G'day from Australia!

One of the things I love most about traveling (in fact, the ONLY thing I love about traveling) is stopping for a big breakfast on the way. Swap the grape jelly for strawberry preserves and you have my favorite breakfast.
