The ice is out, the snow has melted, however the village is still empty of summer residents and tourists. It was very quiet when I was there yesterday.
One of the biggest attractions in Long Lake is the seaplane rides over the many lakes and mountains. Helms Aero Service is a family owned business. I am sure it's in the second generation, if not the third generation of flying sightseers, fishing and hunting parties in the Adirondacks.
Great food is served here at the Adirondack Hotel. I enjoyed lunch there a few years ago.
I was in town only a few hours for an event, with no time for flying or lunch at the hotel. But just doing this post has me thinking that I should take a day and do those things in Long Lake... stay tuned later this summer!

I loved this tour of Long Lake! Looks like a great place to visit and spend the day!
love that hotel - what a great building. reminds me in a way of Dirty Dancing - I guess it's that era.
Oh Cedar, what a unique place. That just looks like the type of place I'd love to go and spend a few days... The Adirondack Hotel looks like a great place. I'll bet their food is delicious.
AND--of course, I'd love to go on one of the seaplane rides....
Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy
Wish we could hang out and spend the day together doing these fun things. I would be SOOOO in!
So many beautiful places to visit and so little time! The hotel/inn looks sooo inviting.
Go for it! Still, this is a great time of the year to visit these touristy place without the tourists.
That hotel has been hanging tough for years. I once had the most delicious pastry there.
Whether it is "the Heart" is debatable, but I do consider Long Lake to be a handy geographic center of our area.
Haven't been on a plane-ride yet. Better do it soon.
Funny how we take the attractions near us for granted. I have done the same thing for years but now that I'm older I am determined to explore New England and the fine things is has to offer a bit more.
Glad the ice and snow it GONE! I wasn't sure when I saw your header ; )

TourPro, the term "heart" is truly debatable,.. I took that from their website. Sharon, I guess it's time to re-do my header photo as I have seen enough snow to last me until next winter! Robynn, come on east, we'll go for a seaplane ride! Everyone, thanks for the wonderful comments!
Going to have to day trip down there this Summer or Fall. We've only been through briefly - Always thought it looked beautiful. Neat place.
What a great place that would be to visit!
What a lovely LOVELY place to live! Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Yes, 'tis a lovely spot. It's even rather quite at Long Lake in June, as I spent a week there last summer. 'Seems the summer tourist season doesn't start in the Adirondacks 'till July.
I would love to from for a visit especilly in summer. It looks lovely
greg has taken a sea plane ride with that company and we have eaten at that restaurant. Love Hoss's too. My inlaws camp right there across from Hoss's store. It is a cute little town.
We love Long Lake. We have ate lunch on the beach and watch the seaplanes fly in.It is so pretty.Great post.
You make me want to pack my bags and travel north. I've never been to the heart of the Adirondacks and it sure is beautiful.
Happy Twirls
It IS a great lunch place~ We tend to time our passing through Long Lake to coincide with a meal... Come to think of it, we time all our travels to be in certain places at meal times ... Apparently The Husband and I are governed by our stomachs!
Wow, beautiful photos!
I feel transported to another time and place. When life was a bit slower and more graceful. Nice to know it still exists somewhere.
I love the little town of Long Lake, NY. It is quiet and serene. Mr. Helms, the son, is still flying the planes. Great swimming and fishing. We go there often.
I have been sneaking in on your wonderful blog. It is terrific.....very interesting. Thank you.
