Miss Thousand Islands II

The Miss Thousand Islands II is a triple-cockpit mahongany runabout. When visiting the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY going for a ride on the St.Lawrence River is a "must do!" This is the view as we left the dock at the museum.

A view of her dashboard...

One of the many smaller islands in the 1000 Islands...

This little camp sits on a rocky mini-island!

Another small island was home to an interesting house. The tour guide told us it was designed by a protegee of Frank Lloyd Wright.

The prevailing winds on the St.Lawerence River have caused many of the trees to have a permenent lean...
A typical scene as we passed between two islands,...

There were many summer homes, both large and small...

And this is only the boathouse!

Rock Island Lighthouse is about four miles downriver from Clayton.

The boat ride ended my visit to the Antique Boat Museum. It was a perfect day, clear blue sky, and barely a ripple on the river. I left with a promise to myself to return again sometime.

My kind of day! LOVED loved the islands you showed. One of my favorite hobbies is to take our boat out and ride along the shoreline to see all the houses and cabins...
This was a great post, thanks!

Now THAT is awesome! The camp on the rock is so cool! Makes me wonder if they have that fancy underwater cable for electric or they're on their own. Pretty awesome boat too. Never been over there - looks like glorious country.

How beautiful. I especially loved to see those island houses. It is amazing that they stand at all, given the weather.

Beautiful!

Hi Cedar, I would love to take that boat ride. Seeing the 1000 Islands (a few of them!!) is so neat. I'd LOVE to have a summer home there. Bet it stays cool most of the summer.

Thanks for taking us with you!!
Hugs,
Betsy

I wanna be you. You have the most interesting life and go the most fascinating places! Really enjoyed this and that house practically on water level. Does the lake never rise? Are they safe from flooding there? I need to know these things! lol

Thanks for all of your kind comments! Robynn, that camp and the house are on some of the 1000 Islands, an area in the St.Lawerence River as it leaves Lake Ontario and begins its journey to the Atlantic Ocean. There is probably some variance in the water level, especially in the spring when the rains come and ice melts. But I have never heard of it flooding the islands. Some "islands" are nothing more than rocks,..others are several acres. I try to get to the river at least once a year. I'll be camping farther downriver in July a whole different scene right on the shipping lanes.

I would love to live on my own island. That would be so cool. I would definitely need one that's a little bit bigger though :)

What a gorgeous boat ride - I love the picture of the wake.

We lived in Lancaster Ontario (right on the St Lawrence River) and had a friend who had a little cottage on the St Lawrence River. It was so coll to see the boats - big and little - passing so close to their dock.

I had to laugh about the bent trees Cedar. OH how I hated the wind up there. Yes believe them when they say it's windy and it never ends! Here in Alabama the trees are nice and straight! Well unless they are knocked over by a tornado!!! All these pictures are familiar to me! Thanks for bringing me a little piece of my past! Here is the link to my trip to Clayton last spring
