Antique Boat Museum...

Last weekend on Friday morning a friend and I drove a short distance from the bluegrass festival to Clayton, NY. There we visited the Antique Boat Museum. It is a complex of several buildings, this is the main entrance building.

In 1986 I was fishing on Lake Placid here in the Adirondacks and there was an antique boat regatta that same day. This boat, the "Snail" , went by where we were fishing and I took a photo. I remember it well.
The front of the museum facing the river has benches and chairs as a place to sit and enjoy the cool breeze and the view. Although not in the Adirondack Park itself, these Adirondack Chairs were strategically placed so we could enjoy shade from the sun.
Many rivers criss-cross the north country of NY, however when I refer to "the river" I mean the St.Lawrence...
Here is one of the displays featuring racing boats...
When i look at a boat such as the Dixie II I wonder about all the people and the good times it has seen. It looks like the Dixie II was a champion!
For more fun on the river, stay tuned!

Cedar, such a great post and trip down memory lane. My summers as a young person were spent on Georgian Bay in the near north of Ontario which has a rich history of these beautiful boats and beautiful cottages. Occassionally you can still see them on special weekends. The Adirondack chair continues to be a staple in my life...hmmm I'm missing cottage country. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

I love those maritime museums. The worksmanship on those old boats is absolutely amazing.

Love this post, Cedar. I have been to a boat museum before--and they are so much fun, and so educational.

Thanks for showing us inside your museum... Amazing!

That's quite a collection of boats! I've seen a few near Coeur D'Alene Idaho, and the am intrigued by the workmanship on them. I bought and restored an old boat one time (just a small one) and know how much work goes into it!

Great pictures, and those boats are so graciously beautiful. I think they are made with love.

Looks like a neat place to visit! Here "the river" is the Mississippi. AKA from the native Americans - The Father Of Waters.

Well, that's kind of neat. I never seen an antique boat museum before. I think I would find it really really interesting to learn the history of boats. They look so beautiful hanging up there are so shiny and made out of pure wood as opposed to what most are made of today!
Neat...
