Sweet Violets!...

In 1951 Dinah Shore recorded the song "Sweet Violets." Sweet violets are growing in abundance all around my home and along my driveway! I have had fun experimenting with my camera the past few days...

Dinah Shore?! Dang I feel old.

Sadly, I remember her show. At least those flowers are young and fresh.

Pretty strange lyrics to that tune.

Aren't they such sweet little flowers? Especially when they're mixed in with yellow dandelions.

Unfortunately my hubby likes to mow them down the very first chance he gets! lol! He says they're weeds and he doesn't like them. I have to admit they will take over the whole yard given the chance!

Any flower is a good flower this time of year : )

These violets are beautiful! A sure sign of spring! These are one of my mom's favorite flowers - I'm shooting some photos of them this morning in my yard and going to frame them for her.

Oh how lovely - I love violets - such a sweet, simple, unassuming flower. Great pics!

I remember that song! I loved it when I was a child...it was almost naughty (when you are 7) and I loved the surprises in it.

I love the sweet violets as well.

These are so beautiful and your photos are great. Violets are one of those flowers that are "just there' not showy or loud...just there.
Change is inevitable...the smaller ferries, Queen of Prince Rupert & Queen of the North carried everything, community docks were built to accommodate them and when they arrived at the communities(no matter what time)everyone would come to meet them. Years ago they would allow community members to come on board to have coffee and pie in the restaruant on the two hour stop. People need to go to the hospital, if not an emergency would travel by ferry in special cabins. When I first arrived on the islands I was coming home just before Christmas from Vancouver. When we got into Prince Rupert on Christmas eve we went to sleep on the ferry thinking we would be on the islands the next morning....the weather blew up and we spent three days on board the Queen of the North waiting for the weather to settle down. The crews spend two weeks on and two weeks off shift and while on, live on board. We were served a full turkey Christmas dinner and Santa came and handed out gifts for the kids, credit was extended to locals at the book store...it was a blast! That would never happen now. The new ferries are too big to dock in the isolated communities so there are little open car ferries that take you to Shearwater/Bella Bella to catch the big boat....the romance is gone. You are forbidden to sleep on the floors with your sleeping bags, a very common exercise for locals who do not want to pay for a cabin...everyone has their favourite spot on the ferry to crash! The ferries are now for the tourist. In your area the closest ferry to the Queen of Prince Rupert is the ChiChimun that sails from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island in Georgian Bay, Ontario. It was built by the same company that built the QPR. There is a set of doors inside the bow which close and lock when the snot closes and the same on the stern. They were added after the sister ship to the Queen of the North sank in the North Sea when the bow doors where left open and she took on water and turned turtle drowning everyone on board.
Think I have said enough...thanks for stopping by.

I love violets! They are so shy and modest and utterly sweet.
You did a great job photographing them.

Ooooooooh...I popped over to your blog to say thank you for what you said on mine...and then I was stunned by the sheer loveliness of your photography. AH! TOTALLY fills my eyes...WOW!

I have to say, I laughed and laughed when I read your comment, "You probably promised him a date..." That hit my funny bone BIG time! (Grin)

Thank you, I needed that!

Violets make such willing subjects. There are so many of them. You can go wide angle. You can go close-up on one. I can see the experimentation in this series of images. You're doing fine.
