Echos and Stars....

Do you remember the 1980 Olympics when the USA beat the Soviet team in the semi-final hockey game? Last night at the Smucker's Stars on Ice 25th Anniversary tour opening show in Lake Placid's Herb Brooks Olympic Arena in Lake Placid,...I believe I could still hear "USA, USA, USA!" chants!

Here Kurt Browning on the left has just introduced Scott Hamilton on the right. There was deafening cheering and a standing ovation for Scott when he skated to center ice. He then took time to recall the past 25 years and the skaters whom we all remember.

Here Sasha Cohen wowed the crowd...

Ekaterina Gordeeva...still performing after losing her husband and pairs partner to a sudden heart attack in this very arena in 1995 while preparing for a tour. She has remarried and has a lovely little girl,...she is as beautiful as ever and skates like an angel...

The whole cast finishing the finale performance,...

And the final circle of the ice waving to the audience. Another standing ovation!
Watch your NBC television programming for January 22,... the show was taped to be broadcast.

I remember when Scott Hamilton won his first gold medal ... I remember crying at the beauty of his performance. I remember his battle with cancer, and crying again.

I've never been able to see him perform in person, but I still admire him like no other figure skater before or after.

What a wonderful opportunity you had to see such beautiful performances!

Beth and Clytie,... been a busy fall, working two jobs and taking a bout of a chest cold. Things slowed down and only one job again,..and a little more healthy! :) I saw Scott skate in Lake Placid years ago ... dressed in a tux, and skating to "New York, New York"... he was almost strutting to that great song. The arena practically vibrated with the noise of applause for him last night and he wasn't even a performer. Good to hear from you both, my friends!

Ceder-How are you? What a wonderful way to spend the day. I'll never forget the winter day I went to pick my mother up at the airport and who comes off the plane with a smile on his face, but Scott Hamilton. He looked at me and said Hi, how are you. What a very sweet man.

How fortunate to see a Stars on Ice in person! I don't follow it much now but love all the older skaters. Good to hear from you again! Jean

Although I was an awful skater I'll watch it with someone who adores figure skating. Addicted might be a better word. :)
