Where There Is Smoke,...

This morning my cat Jennifer was acting very strange, she was going back and forth to the window, jumping in my lap and really agitated. Not long after I began to smell smoke. What I thought was fog outside was really haze from the many forest fires north of here in Quebec. The usual view is hidden, no mountains to be seen.

This is what it usually looks like,... this shot taken just before the leaves came out.

I sure hope the rain that is expected in Canada takes care of this situation. My heart goes out to those displaced by the fire and those risking their lives to fight the more than 55 blazes.

Believe it or not the smoke was pretty bad down here on the seacoast today too. I couldn't imagine it would make it down this far, but it did. Tonight seems much clearer though.

That's a lot of fires! That news did not reach here. Must have been a dry winter up in Quebec? Here it has been a wet May, but a couple of weeks of hot weather with a little wind can send us into fire season too and everyone predicts a severe one here too.

Oh MY! I had not read about the fires in Canada. We are heading up to our land (Gilbertsville, NY) tomorrow.. I wonder if the smoke has reached there too?

I do hope the rains come.

Wow--you have forest fires going already? With the warm wet winter we've had, I think the underbrush in our forests will make for a BAD fire season this summer--that is, if it ever warms up.

It is good to hear from you! I've missed reading your blogs, sweet Friend!

Heard about it on the News this morning and they said it was down here in northern Ct. I personally haven't seen it yet but just to know it's coming is Freaky!!!
Were expecting thunder Showers later which will probably blow it off the coast where I am...

Just a Beautiful View for you each morning of the Mountains!!!

I read on someone elses blog about the fire too - hope it gets put out soon. We had wildfires in northern michigan a few weeks ago that burned thousands of acres. We definitely need some rains!

H Cedar,

The smoke was unbelievable yesterday. I was amazed to hear that it reached Boston.

What a beautiful view you have! And a very smart cat, too.

Ack! Please ... take our rain! We are saturated. Even lost power today because a waterlogged tree fell across power lines up the street.

And we're expecting another 1-2 inches of rain in the next 24 hours as a 'winter-like' Pacific storm moves in.

I wish we could send some to your forest fires. It would put them out in a hurry.

I also agree with Beth's comment - I've missed you!

My goodness! Are they having a drought there? In California we get these every summer as part of our normal eco system. But it has been an especially wet year and the vegetation has grown phenomenally. I hope that doesn't bode poorly for those who live in dangerous areas. (Nice to see you and hope the smoke clears soon!)
