The Beat Goes On...

Readers that have been with me for the past nearly two years know that I am a lover of bluegrass music. Every summer I take my camper and travel to the festivals in northern New York and in Vermont. My grandson is showing interest in the music. He has gravitated toward the mandolin. He'll be going with me to his first festival this coming June.

Here he was "playing along" with Louis Setzer and the Appalacian Mountain Boys on a dvd.

His expression says it all!

My grandfather played the mandolin...not real well. But I have good memories of watching him. Sounded good to me. And it is such a distinguishable sounding instrument in a song. Thanks for sharing :)

That's so nice that your grandson has an interest in the music that you love! He appears to be at a good age to start learning an instrument and if he pursues it he will likely enjoy it the rest of his life.

That's neat that your grandson is showing an interest in music. I know that will make you VERY happy, Cedar.

Bet you can't wait to get the new camper out on the road... Come-on-SPRING... Right?
Hugs,
Betsy

I love it! I have a dulcimer! I actually had two for awhile and my daughter and I would try and play together...it was pretty hilarious actually. Love that style of music. I actually wrote a post on learning to play the dulcimer you might enjoy: http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2009/10/dulcimer-tale-part-1.html

Looks like you have a budding musician in the family! I think music is a wonderful interest for kids. My kids all learned how to play in the school band and they loved it! You and your grandson will have a ball at all the festivals this summer.

Hi Cedar,
You must be a pretty cool grandmother if your 10 year old grandson is coming along! Most of them would be to embarrassed.

Summer will be here ... shortly ; )

I love the thought it is something just you and your grandson get to do together. Wonderful!

WOW! My brother plays both mandolin and guitar. My other brother is a guitarist and can play some piano. I play several instruments as well as my husband and our children. It's always a lot of fun when we all get together. lol

Things have changed in past years. WE haven't had a get together like we used to for quite some time.

Life is hard sometimes...
