Gone Campin'...

Every campfire is always the best one ever,... right?

My older son gave me these neat little hanging lanterns for Christmas. They really look nice in front of the camper.

All set up at Macomb Reservation just west of Plattsburgh, NY. One of the nicest state campgrounds in the Adirondacks.

The view down to the water is framed by tall pines. Perfect setting to watch the Canada geese, great blue herons, and all kinds of little critters such as squirrels and chipmunks. Heading home soon. Sorry smallpines,... didn't travel 86. Will do that soon!

Sunset on The River...

As my reader friends know, I love to camp. Sunday I towed my 20' camper to the St.Lawrence River and have been camping at Coles Creek State Campground. This photo is why I love it there.... That's Ontario, Canada across the river. I'll be away for several more days and promise to catch up with you all soon. I miss my blogger friends!

On The Way Home,...

This evening I drove to Lake Placid to attend a gathering of Adirondack bloggers and tweeters. It was certainly nice to finally put faces with names on blogs I'd been reading. A great idea, a great party!

On the way home the light was at a very nice angle so I pulled into a favorite view. The cemetery in Keene, NY. It is situated high on a hill with a commanding view of the high peaks. Over the years trees have grown so the view is now not as wide. Somehow I think these old Adirondackers are enjoying their final resting place.

As I drove down the hill from the cemetery this old barn was keeping watch as the evening light fell.

The mist was settling over the pasture here,...can you see the cows in the distance?

What a nice ending to a nice day!

Dorothy Jane!...

I have been away, camping for several days at a bluegrass festival in Vermont. One of the attractions on Friday afternoon was "Open Stage" where lesser known acts can do two or three numbers. This young woman, still in her teens, is Dorothy Jane Siver from Crown Point, New York. She plays the fiddle like a wizard, sings like an angel! Watch out Alison Kraus, here comes Dorothy Jane!

Family Treasure,...

Many years ago, probably around 1950, my mother bought this lamp at a rummage sale. The white shade had a crack but she fell in love with it. She brought it to our family camp and it's been over the kitchen table every since. Many a card game, crossword puzzle, breakfast and supper have been enjoyed by its kerosene light. Its finish is worn, the crack in the shade is longer, and shows to the left of the flame, but in our eyes and hearts it is perfect.

While at our camp yesterday for a family picnic I noticed this at the edge of the water. By comparing the leaves I believe it to be a Royal Fern.

Looking north from our front yard,...

And west across the water,...

Unfortunately it was overcast most of the day with rain about every half hour! But when a person is with family it really doesn't matter. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend!
